See, I Am Doing Something New!
Isaiah 43:18-19,21-22, 24b-25
18 "Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.
21 the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.
22 "Yet you have not called upon me, O Jacob,
you have not wearied yourselves for me, O Israel.
24 You have not bought any fragrant calamus for me,
or lavished on me the fat of your sacrifices.
But you have burdened me with your sins
and wearied me with your offenses.
25 "I, even I, am he who blots out
your transgressions, for my own sake,
and remembers your sins no more.
2 Corinthians 1:18-22
18 But as surely as God is faithful, our message to
you is not "Yes" and "No." 19For the Son of
God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy,
was not "Yes" and "No," but in him it has always been
"Yes." 20For no matter how many promises God has
made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the
"Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. 21Now it
is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22set
his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a
deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Mark 2:1-12
Jesus Heals a Paralytic
1A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the
people heard that he had come home. 2So many gathered that
there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the
word to them. 3Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic,
carried by four of them. 4Since they could not get him to Jesus
because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and,
after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on. 5When
Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are
forgiven."
6Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to
themselves, 7"Why does this fellow talk like that? He's
blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
8Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they
were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, "Why are you
thinking these things? 9Which is easier: to say to the
paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up, take your mat and
walk'? 10But that you may know that the Son of Man has
authority on earth to forgive sins . . . ." He said to the paralytic,
11"I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home." 12He
got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed
everyone and they praised God, saying, "We have never seen anything
like this!" |
